First Aid/CPR/AED for the Workplace, Schools, and Community:

Will be trained to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situations and to recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants. One will be able to provide care with the knowledge and skills necessary in an emergency to help sustain life and to minimize pain and the consequences of injury or sudden illness until professional medical help arrives.  Approximately 9 hours in length. All classes will be held at the Scenic Bluffs Chapter, 2927 Losey Blvd. S., La Crosse, WI 54601.

CPR/AED  for the Professional Rescuer:

For those with a duty to act (professional rescuers). Will be taught  the skills needed to repond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies.  This includes the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to care for a victim of cardiac arrest.  Approximately 8 hours in length. This course is for candidates wishing to instruct basic-level American Red Cross First Aid, CPR and AED courses for lay responders.  Course Fee includes all necessary manuals.  Approximately 26 hours in length.

Babysitter's Training:

The purpose of the American Red Cross Babysitter's Training course is to provide individuals, ages 11-15, with the information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents or adult guardians.  This training will help participants develop skills in leadership and professionalism; basic care; safety & safe play; and first aid.  Participants are encouraged to bring a sack lunch with them the day of the course.  Students must be 11 years of age at the conclussion of the course to receive certification. AQUATICS

Lifeguard Training -- Participants must be 15 years of age by completion of course (16 to work in WI).  Prerequisites includes an initial skills test of a 300 yard swim and retrieval of a 10 pound brick within 1 minute 40 seconds.  Participants MUST attend ALL sessions.

Lifeguard Training:

Prerequisites
Minimum age of 15.
Swim 300 yards continuously.
Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7–10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

Learning Objectives
-Understand the value of behaving in a professional manner.
-Learn how to identify behaviors of a swimmer, distressed swimmer and an active or passive drowning victim.
-Understand the components of an emergency action plan and how to activate it.
-Understand the general procedures for an emergency occurring in the water or on land.
-Demonstrate how to perform equipment-based rescues.
-Learn how to provide first aid and how to care for breathing and cardiac emergencies.
-Learn how to recognize and care for possible head, neck or back injuries.
