First Aid/CPR/AED for the Workplace, Schools, and Community:

Will be trained to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situations and to recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants. One will be able to provide care with the knowledge and skills necessary in an emergency to help sustain life and to minimize pain and the consequences of injury or sudden illness until professional medical help arrives.  Approximately 9 hours in length. All classes will be held at the Scenic Bluffs Chapter, 2927 Losey Blvd. S., La Crosse, WI 54601.

CPR/AED  for the Professional Rescuer:

For those with a duty to act (professional rescuers). Will be taught  the skills needed to repond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies.  This includes the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to care for a victim of cardiac arrest.  Approximately 8 hours in length. Join the American Red Cross as a Babysitter's Training instructor and help give kids that skills and confidence to be great babysitters. The class uses hands-on activities, interactive video and lively discussions to teach students ages 11-15 how to be the best babysitters on the block. CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Instructor Course
The purpose of this course is to train instructor candidates to teach the American Red Cross CPR/AEDfor the Professional Rescuer course.  Course fee includes all necessary manuals.

Water Safety Instructor Training

Minimum age 16 by end of course.  Learn how to conduct swimming and water safety courses. Prerequisite is stroke competency through ARC swim level 6 or YMCA Flying Fish.  Must attend all classes, no exceptions!

Lifeguard Instructor Training

The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor course is to train instructor candidates to teach basic-level Lifeguarding, Waterfront Lifeguarding, Waterpark Lifeguarding, Shallow Water Attendant, Lifeguard Management, CPR/AED for Lifeguards, Administering Emergency Oxygen, Bloodborne Pathogens Training: Preventing Disease Transmission and Basic Water Rescue courses.
 
Instructor candidates will also become familiar with GuardStart: Lifeguarding Tomorrow and Water Safety presentations.
 
This course prepares instructor candidates to use course and presentation materials, conduct training sessions and evaluate the progress of candidates in a professional-level setting.
Course Prerequisites
1. Minimum age 16 before course begins.
2. Successfully complete the LG prerequisite swim test.
3. Be able to properly demonstrate all of the Rescues, CPR and First-Aid skills taught in the Lifeguarding Course.
4. Provide your own Pocket Mask and LG Manual (you can purchase these at the Red Cross or from YMCA North Aquatics)

Babysitter's Training:

The purpose of the American Red Cross Babysitter's Training course is to provide individuals, ages 11-15, with the information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents or adult guardians.  This training will help participants develop skills in leadership and professionalism; basic care; safety & safe play; and first aid.  Participants are encouraged to bring a sack lunch with them the day of the course.  Students should be 11 years of age at the conclussion of the course.  All classes will be held at the Scenic Bluffs Chapter, 2927 Losey Blvd. South, La Crosse unless otherwise noted.
 
Cost includes: 8 hour hands on training, full color comprehensive participants manual, full color emergency guide, interactive CD ROM, Babysitter Portfolio First Aid Kit.

Aquatics and Other Courses Offered in the Community:

The following American Red Cross courses are being conducted at various locations by American Red Cross Authorized Providers.  Please review the information carefully and contact the facility or persons listed with each course for more specific information.

AQUATICS

Lifeguard Training --

YMCA - Gain the necessary skills to qualify as a nonsurf lifeguard.  Prerequisites are: 300 yard swim, and a brick retrieval (timed).  Candidates must be 16 years old to work as a lifeguard in the state of Wisconsin.  This fee includes books and certifications for CPR-Professional, First Aid, AED and Lifeguard training. Must attend every class, no exceptions!  Minimum age 15 by the end of the course.
YMCA La Crosse – 2nd Floor Multipurpose Room
          The YMCA is holding one Ligeguard class each month this summer: April, May, June, August 2010

Emergency Response:

This course trains individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to work as a first responder in an emergency to help sustain life, reduce
pain, and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until more advanced medical help can arrive. 

This course meets Wisconsin Department of Health requirements for Camp Health Services Staff.
